Porn Trial

This week, my blog post might be deemed by some as slightly "off topic" however I feel that this is an important topic that could affect us all. Us being those involved in the Kink/Fetish world.

Some of you may know - that there has been an important trial taking place in the UK recently. Simon Walsh, a London Politician who is professionally involved with prosecuting Police Officers for disciplinary offences is being accused of being in possession of "extreme pornographic images". These "extreme images" involved fisting, a man wearing a gas mask and some sounding pics. The UK Crown Prosecution Service's (CPS) case states that these images are of activities that can cause serious bodily harm.

I am sure a lot of us have pics of our play scenes, sexual encounters and such. And Im pretty sure that the images we have on our computers are considerably more extream in the eyes of the CPS than the images in Simon Walsh's email account. Personally I have pics of me whipping my boy, I have pics showing the marks I have made on several boy's backs, and without execption all of those pics were made with boys with smiles on their faces. Am I a criminal? Not in my opinion. Do I display these images publicly, yes - some on my recon profile and other gay cruising sites and this is something Simon Walsh did not do; the images he had were only on his email account. Am I a worse criminal than Simon Walsh? In the eyes of the CPS - probably.

Although I no longer live in the UK, and have not for many years; I am still British (well Scottish!) and I am proud of my heritage; but my pride is diminishing. The UK made some great progress in the last few years regarding Gay Rights and sexual freedom. However this trial is changing my mind. I watched the London Olympics Opening Ceremony; I was proud to be British even though I dont live there, however yesterday reading the tweets of the statements of the CPS in their closing arguments - I hung my head in shame.

According to the CPS, in their closing arguments:

1) People who visit Sexual Health Clinics engage in more risky practices
2) If the police cannot find something on a suspect's computer - it probably means they deleted it
3) "Some may make civil liberties arguments, but there are exceptions to free speech we enjoy" CPS
4) "Walsh fantasised about being involved in being in an orgy" CPS
5) "You can criticise the law if you want to; but it is modern. Passed by Parliament" CPS
6) "The law seems to protect individuals, perhaps for themselves. Like drugs. Some may say it's illiberal, It is the law" CPS
7) "Oscar WIlde said risk was like feasting with panthers" CPS
8) "Why would a prominent Magistrate jeopardise his position over activities such as fisting and sounding?" CPS

Im sorry, the above is simply ridiculous, and I think the irony of the Oscar Wilde quote escapes the simple, limited vindictive minds of the CPS. This is shameful!

Lets hope common sense prevails and Simon Walsh is found innocent. Maybe this trial will put serious question marks over the ridiculous "section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008"

I admire this man for allowing his trial to be publicly tweeted. Mr Walsh - I respect you and hope you will be fully aquitted.
